Streak Freeze and Image Updates

Anyone who's built a streak knows the gut-punch: 40 days of momentum, one busy Tuesday, and suddenly you're back at zero. For a lot of people that reset isn't motivating — it's the exact moment they quit, because the wall they have to climb back up feels too tall to bother. Today we shipped a fix for that in Ascend: the Streak Freeze. If you miss a single day on a habit you're building, Ascend now spends a "freeze" to bridge the gap and keep your streak alive — and you earn a fresh freeze for every week you stay consistent. It's the same psychology that helped Duolingo cut drop-off among at-risk users by about a fifth: keep the gentle daily pull of a streak, but remove the all-or-nothing anxiety that makes one slip feel fatal.

One line we drew very deliberately: freezes apply only to the habits you're building — never to the streaks for habits you're breaking. If you're counting days clean, that number has to stay honest. Pretending a hard day didn't happen wouldn't be doing anyone any favors, and Ascend's reflection flow already exists to help you learn from a slip rather than erase it. Forgiveness and honesty aren't the same thing, and a recovery tool has to know the difference. We also gave WikiHole a small finishing touch today — a proper preview image, so sharing a link actually looks like something when it lands in a chat. A quieter day than some, but a meaningful one: sometimes the most useful thing you can add to a product is a little room to be human.
